Music Blog Submission Etiquette: Dos and Don'ts
Small mistakes get pitches ignored. These habits separate artists who get replies from those who don't.
Do
- Address the editor by name when you can find it
- Mention a recent article of theirs that relates to your sound
- Send one clear streaming link and one photo link
- Say thank you, whether or not they cover you
Don't
- Send mass emails with everyone's address visible
- Attach large WAV files or zip folders
- Demand coverage or a reply date
- Pitch the same track repeatedly
Treat editors as people who choose what to cover, not as a service you are owed. A polite, well-prepared pitch is remembered.
