How to Follow Up With Editors Without Being Annoying

Outreach · 3 min read

Silence does not always mean no. Editors are busy, and a well-judged follow-up can bring your email back to the top.

Timing

Wait about a week after your first message. Follow up once, maybe twice, then move on.

Give them something new

The best follow-ups add news: a music video, a live date, or a milestone. "Just checking in" gives the editor nothing to act on.

Keep it short

Two or three sentences, a link, and a thank-you are enough. Reply on the same email thread so the original pitch is right below.

Respect the answer

If they decline, thank them and keep them on your list for the next release. Relationships built over several releases often lead to coverage.
