How to Write a Press Release for Your New Single

Press kit · 5 min read

A press release gives an editor the facts of your release in a format they can paste, quote and publish. It does not need to be long, just clear.

A template that works

  1. Headline: artist name, release title and one hook, for example "Bristol duo Marlowe announce debut EP 'Low Tide'".
  2. Opening paragraph: who, what, when, and where to listen.
  3. Story paragraph: why you made it, in your own words.
  4. A quote from you that adds personality.
  5. Boilerplate: a short bio, links and contact email.

Keep it factual

Avoid hype words like "revolutionary" or "the best". Editors trust specifics such as dates, collaborators, recording locations and themes far more than superlatives.
